Forget about the champagne and caviar, there will only be noodles on the table for the next couple of months as the technical damage is extensive and will take time to repair. This isn’t the first time the world’s second largest economy implodes, last time it was Japan (rather than China today) in the early 1990s and the US managed to decouple after initially taking a hit. History doesn’t always repeat itself but it often rhymes. Good luck and always use stops!

S&P 500 plunged 14% back in August 1998 before rallying by 29% during the last four months of the year. Goldman Sachs writes “Ultimately, the US economy was relatively unaffected by overseas financial market gyrations in 1998 and we believe a similar situation will occur in 2015.” While today’s fundamentals support this thesis the technicals look more like the crash of 1987 where the S&P 500 ended up spending months trading sideways. Good luck and always use stops!

Yesterday will be remembered as Black Monday of 2015, the algos were definitely having a field day. The worst is most likely behind us as these extreme moves lead to V shaped bounces. The alternative is a bounce followed by a retest of the lows which creates a W-bottom. There will be plenty of opportunity but it will require a good dose of patience. Good luck and always use stops!

During the past days we have seen quality setups fail and now we see a full blown meltdown. Managing risk is truly a necessity to survive in this environment. As bad as things look we have extreme sentiment readings which signal that we are close to a bottom. There are no setups to be found so this will likely take days if not weeks to repair. Good luck and always use stops!

Big down day and you begin to wonder if the world is coming to an end. As bad as things look it has seldom paid to short this market, there is simply not enough evidence to warrant action on the short side. The FED has clearly signaled their accommodative stance which along with improving fundamentals is enough to fuel this market much higher for many years to come. Bull markets tend to end when you see euphoria and right now the prevalent mood is disbelief. Good luck and always use stops!
